If you are trying to find a new career position, then you already know job hunting can be a full time job in itself.
If you are currently unemployed, then in theory, you have adequate time to look for your own job.
But, if you are doing small consulting projects or working at a temporary position, you probably find it difficult to dedicate enough time to your own job search.
And, if you are still employed in a full-time position, but wanting to find a new job – between the pressure of your current job and other commitments such as family time and raising young children, you are probably at a loss as to how to find the time to look for employment.
Working with recruiters is a great option, but recruiters can only place job seekers into positions when employers have engaged with the recruiters for their services. Many more jobs exist for which recruiters never get involved.
That’s where a Job Seeker Advocate enters the picture.
We are quite different from placement firms. We work with only a handful of individuals and develop a strong, personal connection with our clients. This is in contrast to the services of a typical placement firm where the business model is based on placing a high volume of candidates – often by simply passing along resumes. Placement firms often have multiple candidates to present for job openings.
In contrast, we act in the capacity of the person we are representing, doing all the behind-the-scenes work that you would typically have to do to look for a new position. We work with a very limited number of people. And we focus on the people – not the resumes.
Placement firms look for open positions and posted jobs. We look for match-making opportunities and leverage a vast network of relationships - knowing companies will often create jobs for the right candidates.
As your advocates, we will take the time to understand the types of jobs you find most appealing - from the types of companies, to geographical locations, to cultures, image, salary and benefits.
We can provide a range of services, from outbound calls to the most desirable target companies (looking for jobs that are not posted), to working the various job boards and employment sites to narrow down opportunities for you.
We also include networking groups under our advocacy umbrella and leverage various social media outlets to see if there is any benefit to increasing your exposure in those forums, and we actively attend various networking events to search for opportunities. Some people refer to this as ‘networking advocacy’
Finally, we can assist with writing highly effective cover letters and even filling out online submission forms on your behalf. This will be explained more during the first consultation.
Our services are designed to provide the most value to a job seeker who is currently employed, raising a family, and just can’t carve out adequate time to manage a job search.
How our Job Seeker Advocacy services work:
We work on a retainer basis that is different for each person.
We determine the appropriate fee based on the amount of work you’d like us to do on your behalf, the length of the engagement, and the depth of the search we are going to handle.
Once we are engaged, we will interview you to gather all the critical information needed to effectively represent you in searching for a new position. Then we start searching.
We stay in close contact with you to share ideas, and possible opportunities in real time. Email is usually adequate for this during the week to keep your disruption to a minimum.
And, we will never send your resume to any employer without your permission. In some cases, we may determine it is better for you to send in your resume directly.
Give us a call or send us an email to discuss our Job Seeker Advocacy services in complete confidence.
